Mussoorie, March 12
The Tibetan women community, commemorating the 56th anniversary of National Tibetan Women’s Uprising Day, organised a rally and held a candlelight march in Mussoorie as a mark of protest against the oppressive policies of China in mainland Tibet today.
Members of regional Tibetan women’s associations took out a candlelight march and a rally, raising slogans in support of Tibet and against the oppressive Chinese regime from Happy valley, passing through the main markets of the town today.
Later, addressing the rally at Library Chowk, members of the Tibetan association said around 136 Tibetans have sacrificed their lives through self-immolation in support of the demand for Free Tibet and in protest against the oppressive nature of the Chinese regime.
President of the Tibetan Women Congress, Tsering Yongdom, said the Tibetans, especially women, stand united for the cause of Tibet and would support the struggle of their brethren till the ultimate goal of freedom from the Chinese regime is achieved.
She said according to the Human Rights and Democracy Reports of 2015, around 2,110 Tibetan revolutionaries have lost their lives in support of their demands in Tibet, but the international community has been mum on such repression under the Chinese rule.
The Tibetan Women Congress has demanded that the international community bring the oppression being unleashed by China against the Tibetans to a halt and also put pressure on the Chinese government to immediately release Gedhun Choekyi Nyima, the 11th Panchen Lama, Tenzin Delek Rinpoche and Gendel Rinpoche from the clutches of the Chinese rule.
The Tibetan women community has also demanded that Chinese president Xi Jinping respect the middle path suggested by His Holiness Dalai Lama and hold talks with him soon.
The Tibetan Women Congress members said China should not undermine the seat of the Dalai Lama as he was the most revered spiritual and religious guru of the Tibetan community. The Tibetan Women Congress has announced the year 2015 to be observed as Tibetan Women Health Year.
