The National Theatre Arts Society (NTAS), Patiala, organised the Prithiviraj Kapoor Sadbhavana Theatre Congregation at Bhasha Bhawan to mark the culmination of the week-long celebrations of the 109th birthday anniversary of Prithviraj Kapoor.
Prominent scholars, including Dr Surjit Singh Khurma, research officer in the Language Department, Dr Harvinder Kaur, Professor, Punjabi University, Patiala, and several artistes inaugurated the programme by paying floral tributes to the legendary actor.
They dwelt upon the life and achievements of the actor. Chetan Singh, Director, Punjab Languages Department, lauded the NTAS for remembering him.
Recalling his old association with Kapoor, NTAS director Pran Sabharwal said he came into contact with the actor in 1952 at Jyoti Cinema, Jalandhar, during an all-India tour of the Prithvi Theatres.
Sabharwal claimed that he was inspired by the actor do Punjabi theatre. Sabharwal disclosed that the actor was the first founding president of the Punjab Sangeet Natak Akademi, established by the then Chief Minister Partap Singh Kairon.
Punjabi plays, musicals, folk dances were presented by the artistes.
