A Non-Resident Kashmiri, whose organisation is working with different international humanitarian agencies in 20 countries, has once again offered his group’s service to train the police in disaster management in the state.

Capt Sohail Nasti, 39, who heads Mother Helpage Worldwide (MHW), said he had offered to train the J&K police last year too, but there was no response from the government to his offer.

“The police and the Army are the first to carry disaster preparedness and I had last year offered to train the police and this time too I make the same offer,” Nasti said.

“I hope that after the 2014 floods, the state has understood the need to have better disaster preparedness. If we train a unit of police they can later impart training to more people which will help in tackling disasters,” he added.

Nasti works as rescue pilot and is currently based in England and working with different humanitarian agencies. His NGO has worked during various disasters, including Tsunami, Bam, Japan, Haiti, Pakistan floods, Syria and Nepal.

“Our group is ready to provide training and equipment to police,” he added. — TNS
