Going places: Neetu Chandra in Umrao Jaan

Neetu Chandra is a much talented theatre artist. After doing more than 40 shows, her play, Umrao Jaan, is now going international. The costume drama will be staged in the USA, Canada and Europe.

The actress will be travelling for a month. The musical, that’s both in Hindi and Urdu, has her performing non-stop for two hours.

Neetu had to polish her Kathak skills and Urdu diction to portray the character convincingly. She also focussed on improving her moves. The play has been directed by Hidayat Sami and its music is composed by Rekha Bhardwaj.

The Tribune, now published from Chandigarh, started publication on February 2, 1881, in Lahore (now in Pakistan). It was started by Sardar Dyal Singh Majithia, a public-spirited philanthropist, and is run by a trust comprising five eminent persons as trustees.

The Tribune, the largest selling English daily in North India, publishes news and views without any bias or prejudice of any kind. Restraint and moderation, rather than agitational language and partisanship, are the hallmarks of the newspaper. It is an independent newspaper in the real sense of the term.

The Tribune has two sister publications, Punjabi Tribune (in Punjabi) and Dainik Tribune (in Hindi).
