First-time voters participate with zeal

Emotions of curiosity and excitement was clearly on the faces of youngsters who were the first time voters .They went into polling booths with a smile and returned showing their voters ink marks and clicking pictures and selfies with other counterparts.

"To me, this voters' ink mark is the final stamp that we have actually grown up and have become adults," said Gurpreet Singh, a student. “It gives a sense of responsibility and pride that I am a part of the largest democracy of this world," he said.

Ashween Kaur, 21, a BCom student said that she had been missing every chance to get her voter ID from last three years, but this time, she made sure that she would cast her vote.

Harpreet, another youngster said that he had been accompanying his parents since childhood, whenever they used to vote. "I was always curious about seeing how the process takes place. I finally got to do it myself today. It is a great feeling to vote your candidate," he said.

Youths were also excited about receiving the appreciation certificate from district administration after having voted for the first time. Deputy Commissioner-cum-District Election Officer Ravi Bhagat said that around 42,000 appreciation certificates had been printed and signed for first time voters.

"I have heard that such a certificate for voting is being given for the first time to first-time voters. This certificate is going add to the great memories of voting for the first time," says Gurjit Singh, another student.
