Chief Secretary Shatrughan Singh launched a new batch of MBA (Power Management) on the University of Petroleum and Energy Studies (UPES) campus here yesterday.
The two-year programme in distance learning has been tailor made for officers and engineers of various power utilities of the Uttarakhand government. Shatrughan Singh said augmenting the monetisation of the hydropower potential was the only sustainable solution to the future energy needs of Uttarakhand. He appealed to officers and engineers to make the best use of their services in the state’s interests.
Earlier the Chief Secretary was accorded a warm welcome by Dr SJ Chopra, Chancellor of the UPES.
Dr Umakant Panwar, Principal Secretary, advised the university management to devise more innovative programmes towards capacity building in other domains. He cautioned the institution authorities that the course content should be relevant to the geographical conditions of Uttarakhand.
Dr Shrihari, vice-chancellor of UPES, assured the officers and engineers of the state government that he was always open to incorporating relevant and contemporary changes in the course curriculum to make it useful for all stakeholders.
A total of 37 officers and engineers have been shortlisted and sponsored by the UPCL, UJVNL, PTCUL and UREDA for the programme.
