Producer-director of Bollywood Vidhu Vinod Chopra visited Dalhousie today after more than 20 years when he last shot a movie “1942 - A Love Story”.
He said he had come to refresh his old memories of Dalhousie as the natural scenic beauty of this town had an attraction for film-making.
During his visit, he was impressed with “Beeji’s Park” on the premises of Dalhousie Public School (DPS). He said perhaps this was the only beautiful park raised in the honour of mothers.
He appreciated the efforts of Dr (Capt) GS Dhillon, Director Principal of the school, for this wonderful creation.
Vidhu Vinod Chopra is considered the icon producer of great movies such as “3 Idiots”, “Parinda”, “Eklavya” and the “Munna Bhai” series.
Sharing his experience about his career while sauntering on the school campus, Chopra said he had produced first short film “Encounter with faces” at the age of 22 years which bagged him nomination for the Oscar award.
Another short film, “Murder at Monkey Hill”, fetched him the National Film Award for the best short experimental film and the Guru Dutt Memorial Award for the best student film.
“I have three principles for producing a film, the entertainment, not to sell conscience and always treating my films as my last film and so I put in the best effort”, Chopra said.
Chopra observed that the lack of modern means of communication like air connectivity or rail connectivity had deprived Dalhousie the opportunity of film shooting.
