An annual production of an English musical play ‘Mamma Mia’ was staged by prodigious and student actors of Vivek High School at the school auditorium here today. Written by Catherine Johnson and directed by Zubin Mehta, the adequately rehearsed play flourished to depict the dilemma of a prospective bride Sophie Sheridan, played to perfection by Prerna Bakshi who wishes that her missing father, even unknown to her, should walk down the aisle to bless her and bridegroom Sky at her wedding.
The play enters into a complex situation as Sophie came to know from her mother Donna Sheridan’s diary that her mother had been actively dating three persons. To know about her potential father, Sophie secretly sends each a wedding invite and surprisingly all three make it to the function. The interactive discussions with accusations and remorse that followed between Donna, Sophie and her prospective fathers create amuse, suspense and surprise as each one claimed his right to walk down the aisle with Sophie.
The school choir and dance numbers which brought to life the magic of ABBA melodies of 1970s under the direction of Vikramjeet Singh, Paulus Paul and Ondry Paul deserve a special mention.
Prerna Bakshi, Ishana Passi, Aryaaman Tanwar, Rosie and Tanya Navya Diwan, Rakshita Kaul, Gokul Chawla, Amaan Singh, Mannat Singh and Abhi formed the main cast.
