Weather no deterrent to Sahir’s fans

Despite the inclement weather on Sunday, the auditorium of Nehru Sidhant Kender had the warmth of appreciation and applause for sublime poetry. 43rd Jashn-e-Sahir International Mushaira was organised by the admirers of Sahir Ludhianvi. That cultural harmony and unity transcended borders was evident with a galaxy of poets from Pakistan. The mushaira was organised to commemorate the birth anniversary of Sahir Ludhianvi and was dedicated to film writer Khwaja Ahmed Abbas.

Noted poets including Atta ul Haq and Uzair Ahmed from Pakistan, Ashfaq Hussain from Canada, Farhat Parveen from the USA, Naz Butt and Ruksana Noor from Pakistan came to the city to participate in the event. Noted poets from India — Shakil Azmi from Mumbai, Vikas Gupta from Delhi, Hasib Soz from Badaun, Tarrannum Riyaz, Moein Shadab, from Delhi and Hasan Qasmi participated in the event. The poets expressed different facets of life and society woven in beautiful verses.

Poets Ashfaq Hussain and Dr Irtez Karim were honoured with Sahir award while Dr Amna Mufti were bestowed with Adeeb award on the occasion.

Special mentions were also made about the role and importance of women as well, as the day coincided with International Women’s Day, particularly seven poetess recited poems.
