Dera Bassi, May 21
The post-mortem report of Ravinder Kaur, who was found dead under mysterious circumstances on May 20 at her in-laws’ house at Janetpur village near Dera Bassi, revealed that ‘strangulation’ was the cause behind her death.
This was revealed in a report prepared by doctors on the questionnaire sent by the Dera Bassi police seeking clarity on the post-mortem report.
According to sources, a panel of four doctors, including a forensic expert, Dr Kuldeep Singh from the Civil Hospital, Mohali, had been set up to conduct the post-mortem of Ravinder Kaur.
A panel of doctors, who conducted the post-mortem at the Civil Hospital, Dera Bassi, today said: “It is a case of death due to strangulation and the victim died of asphyxia. There were also injury marks indicating that the killer first tried to smother her.”
Soon after her death, the parents of the deceased started levelling allegations on her in-laws of strangling her to death. Refuting the allegations, Ravinder’s in-laws claimed that she had committed suicide.
Family members of the deceased in their statement to the police alleged that Ravinder’s in-laws had objections on certain things, including dowry, and she was even physically harassed and constantly abused.
A case had already been registered at the Dera Bassi police station, following a complaint by the family members of the deceased.
The sources said Ravinder was married to Jaspal Singh, a resident of Janetpur village, five years ago.
Mohinder Singh, SMO, Dera Bassi, said: “The post-mortem report has confirmed strangulation as the cause behind her death. Special forensic expert Dr Kuldeep Singh from the Civil Hospital, Mohali, was a part of the panel team that conducted the post-mortem. We have also sent viscera to a lab in Kharar to know more about the cause of the death”.
Deepinder Singh, SHO, Dera Bassi, said: “We have arrested the accused, Jaspal Singh, who was produced before a local court, which sent him to three-day police custody.
