Women candidates dominate new Naraingarh civic body

Despite scorching heat, the Naraingarh Municipal Committee polling witnessed 75.4 per cent turnout on Sunday. Polling for 14 wards largely went off peacefully. Of 16,029 voters, 12,087 exercised their franchise.
There are 15 wards in Naraingarh. The municipal councillor of ward number six was elected unanimously. As many as 51 candidates, including 26 women, were in fray for the remaining 14 wards of which 9 were reserved (SC — 4, BC — 2 and 3 for women).
Sources said, of total seats, 6 have been won by Congress supported candidates; five by BJP supported candidates, one each by INLD and BSP supported candidates, while Independents bagged two seats. Winners include nine women candidates.
The newly elected municipal councillors include Veena Chanana (ward 1), Sudha (ward 2), Manika Aggarwal (ward 3), Rati Ram (ward 4), Sarwan Kumar (ward 5), Parveen Kumar (ward 6), Jai Parkash (ward 7), Manju Bala (ward 8), Rakhi Devi (ward 9), Jagdeep Kaur (ward 10), Bhimsain (ward 11), Parvinder Kaur (ward 12), Suresh (ward 13), Neelam (ward 14) and Pritpal Kaur (ward 15).
