Six motorcycle-borne persons killed a 27-year-old person by hitting him with bricks at Salem Tabri area today afternoon. The deceased has been identified as Harish Kumar, a resident of Dhandra Road Dugri. Harish used to work with a courier company.
During preliminary investigation, the Salem Tabri police found that Rachana (30), sister of Harish, was married to a person Vinay Kumar, around 14 years ago and she had an 11-year-old daughter. Rachana had some dispute with her husband and now she was living separately with Manoj Kumar, alias Manu, of Chhawani Mohalla, for the past two months. According to the police, the woman had illicit relations with Manu.
Rachana also has not good terms with her mother, Renu, and brother, Harish. Her mother gave a complaint at the Dugari police station against Rachana for stealing gold jewellery from her home around two months ago.
Yesterday, Shami and Karan, two youngsters, visited Harish’s house and asked him to appear at the office of Navreet Kumar, alias Jimmy, self-styled president of the All-India Democratic Human Rights Organisation.
Today, they again called Harish and asked him to come to the office at Chhawani Mohalla.
Harish and her mother reached the office where Rachana and Manoj Kumar Manu were already present.
The mother of the deceased told the police that Navreet Kumar, alias Jimmy, pressurised them to get the marriage of Rachana and Manu done. Jimmy threatened them that if they denied their wedding, then he would harm Harish. After two-hour long negotiation, Renu and Harish did not give approval to the proposal of marriage. A brawl took place between them over the issue.
Harish and her mother left the office of Jimmy and started heading towards their home on their car at 4 pm. Manu and her mother started pelting stones on their car. While six persons, including Manoj Kumar, Rachana, mother of Manoj, Rakesh, Fauji and Deppa, followed the car on three motorcycles. They stopped their car near a petrol pump and hit their vehicle with small bricks. They vandalised the front windshield and hit Harish in the head with bricks. After hurting him badly, the accused managed to flee from the spot.
A constable from the Salem Tabari police station, who was passing from there, helped the mother of the victim in taking Harish to the DMC Hospital. Doctors at the hospital declared him brought dead.
Maninder Bedi, SHO, Salem Tabri Police Station, said: “We have registered a case under Sections 302 and 120 of the IPC against nine accused, including Rachana and mother of Manoj, Rakesh, Fauji, Deppa, Manoj, Navreet Jimmy, Sahmi and Karan. We have conducted raids to arrest the accused. Navreet Jimmy, Sahmi and Karan are in the police custody and others will be in the police net soon.
Harish was to get married next month
Harish was to get married next month. He wanted to send back his sister, Rachana, who was living separately with Manoj Kumar, alias Manu, after some dispute with her husband, so that their relatives do not ask about her in the wedding ceremony.
