Owing to thick smog due to the fire, the management of the plant closed the unit as employees were finding it difficult to work.

MC Joint Commissioner Manoj Khatri said there was a fire in the waste and they had put sand there. Firefighters managed to control the blaze at around 8 pm, he added.

Rekha, a resident of Sector 44, said the smog was visible in their Sector as well and caused breathing problems.

Notably, last year also, there was a fire incident at the dumping ground in April. The fire was controlled after two-days of relentless efforts.

The civic body has failed to find a permanent solution to fire incidents, which occurred at the dumping ground time and again.
