Fire breaks out at Kotak Security office in Sec 8

Chandigarh, May 17

A major tragedy was averted when a fire broke out on the top floor of a shop-cum-office (SCO) 14-15 in Sector 8, here, this morning. The incident occurred at 11.20 am, however, no human loss was reported.

Due to Sunday, the branch office of Kotak Security was closed, which only led to the damage of property. Firefighters took almost 25 minutes to bring the situation under control. A total of three fire tenders, including one hydraulic tender, participated in the rescue operation. Around 25 computers, one server room, three air-conditioners and other material pertaining to stock market was gutted.

Eyewitnesses said owners of adjoining showrooms alerted the fire office, after they saw smoke billowing out from the window of the Kotak Security office. “We cannot calculate the exact damage, but 25 computers, a server, various records pertaining to share market and furniture is gutted. After attending a meeting on Saturday we closed the office and today in the morning we were informed about the fire breaking out at the office” said Kapil Tandoan, head of the branch.

Meanwhile, the owners of the adjoining buildings maintained that before the fire brigade swung into action, they tried to douse the fire with fire-extinguishers. “We are yet to ascertain the exact cause of fire, but a short circuit in the office may have been the cause. The firefighters managed to save one room, located in the same building, but the records  have been destroyed” said the Fire Officer.
