Folk dances performed at Virasat

The Virasat cultural festival started with a folk dance of Haryana, Assam and Chhattisgarh at the Ambedkar stadium here today.
The Bihu dance of Assam was performed by ‘Kala Thitar’ group headed by Rupam Sharma. The dance is known as the Rongali Bihu dance, which is basically performed in April (Baisakh). The instruments used in the dance are pepa, dhol and Tal.
Later, Ghoomar, a traditional folk dance from the Rajasthan, Haryana and Sindh region, was performed. Just like many folk dances, this dance is also performed by men and women either in the praise of deity or for fun during festivities. The Chhattisgarh folk dance showed the tradition and culture of its people. Sanjeev and Manish, both dhrupa players known as ‘Bihar brothers’, performed at the festival.
