Friend says victims were soft-spoken

The accident in the city last night ended the lives of three budding engineers from the town while two others are battling for life at different hospitals.
While deceased Karan Sharma was a resident of Sector 5 at Mansa Devi Complex, his other two friends, who also died, were Chinmay Walia and Anish Garg were from Sector 10 and Sector 7, respectively. A pall of gloom descended on the residences of the victims and the whole day relatives and friends could be seen visiting the bereaved families. Neighbours and friends said that all the victims were good friends.
Sanjay Ahuja, Chinmay’s neighbour, said he was a bright student of civil engineering at the Chandigarh College of Engineering and Technology. He was known by his nickname, Cheenu, and used to respect elders in the locality, said Ahuja.He was the only son of his parents and one of his sisters stays in the USA. She was planning to call him to the US after he completed his studies, said another neighbour. Samar Bagai, a resident of Sector 7 and a friend of Anish and Chinmay, said the three youths were good friends. Samar said all three were well-mannered and soft spoken. Anish was a student of computer science at Chitkara University and was staying with his mother and sister at Sector 7 as his father had died in an accident a few years ago. Since then his mother always remained apprehensive of her son’s security whenever he went out. She always discouraged him from going out after college and today her apprehensions came true, said another neighbour of Anish.
Gaurav and Aditya Batra who were seriously injured in the accident are residents of Sector 4 of the MDC and Sector 8, respectively. Gaurav is pursuing law and his sister is studying at Punjab Engineering College. Aditya is studying computer science at Chitkara University.
