Girl jumps off Basantar bridge, dies

A girl of Trikuta Nagar, Jammu, allegedly committed suicide by jumping from a bridge on the Basantar river in Samba today.
Shalu Heer (21), daughter of Ramesh Lal, jumped off the bridge in the afternoon, the police said.
She was rushed to District Hospital, Samba, where doctors declared her brought dead.
“During preliminary investigation it came to the fore that the girl, along with her boyfriend, was going towards Jammu in a car when they allegedly had an argument. On reaching near the Basantar bridge, she tried to jump out of the car. As her boyfriend stopped the car, she jumped into the river,” a police spokesperson said.
Her boyfriend, Vimal Sharma, a resident of Nonath, Ghagwal, has been taken into custody, he added.
