N Korea threatens to resume nuke development
Seoul: North Korea has warned it could revive a state policy aimed at strengthening its nuclear arsenal if the United States does not lift economic sanctions against the country. The statement came amid a sense of unease between Washington and Seoul over the use of sanctions and pressure to get the North to relinquish its nuclear programme. The ministry said North Korea could bring back its “pyongjin” policy of simultaneously advancing its nuclear force and economic development if the US doesn’t change its stance. AP
IORA members establish Mandela internship programme
Johannesburg: The Indian Ocean Rim Association (IORA), including India, has established an internship programme in honour of former South African president Nelson Mandela. The IORA Nelson Mandela ‘Be the Legacy’ internship programme was announced at the close of the 18th IORA meeting in Durban on Friday. The programme is aimed at empowering young people under the age of 30 years from IORA member states with work experience in their chosen fields of study. The IORA was established through the vision of Mandela, when 14 member states launched the Indian Ocean Rim Association for Regional Cooperation in March 1997. PTI

Alec Baldwin arrested, charged with assault
New York: Actor Alec Baldwin was taken into custody after he allegedly punched a man following a dispute over a parking spot. The 60-year-old actor was charged with assault and harassment and has been given a desk appearance ticket, the New York Police Department said. According to CNN, the alleged altercation occurred in the West Village area of Manhattan on Friday. The police said the two men were arguing and pushing each other before Baldwin stuck the 49-year-old man. Baldwin was subsequently placed under arrest, while the victim was taken to a local hospital where he is said to be in a stable condition. PTI
