Prakash Singh, convener of the committee, said, “The Congress-led state government is eyeing a 2,200-acre prime land of the thermal plant and that is why they have shut the Bathinda thermal plant. But, we would not let this happen. We will sacrifice our lives, if they did not restart the Bathinda thermal plant.”

Lehra Mohabbat thermal plant’s contractual workers also staged a protest. The protesters began assembling outside the gate of the thermal plant this morning and raised slogans against the state government.

The protesters accused the Congress government of running away from its promise of providing jobs to the unemployed while accusing it of snatching the livelihood of many by shutting thermal plants.

Jagsir Singh Bhangu, leader of the GHTP Contract Workers’ Union, said, “We are going to stage a state-level p0rotest outside the Powercom office in Patiala on March 15.”
