Gold for Muskan; Vikas, Pritpal fetch silver

Chandigarh, January 4 

Muskan Vatsas of the Chandigarh University has won a gold medal in the recently conclu-ded Asian Powerlifting Championship.

Muskan claimed the gold in the +57kg category after she lifted a cumulative weight of 325kg. 

She beat Nuriddinova Diana from Kazakhstan, who won a silver medal with a total lift of 284 kg.

Muskan managed to build a strong lead in the squat round by lifting 127.5 kg, before successfully lifting 65kg in the bench press round. She then lifted 132.5kg in the dead-lift round to consolidate her lead.

Another Chandigarh University athlete, Vikas Siwach has won a silver medal at the International Taekwondo Championship in Bhutan. 

Pritpal Singh, meanwhile, claimed a silver medal in mixed doubles category in the Asian Rowing Championship at Thailand.
