As the Gang canal construction work in Sriganganagar area has not been completed, the authorities today decided to keep water supply suspended in some sub canals till May 14. The water will be released from Harike headworks for the main canal tomorrow.

Since the water is bound to be dirty, people have been advised not to consume the water for the next three days.

Besides, senior engineers of Punjab Irrigation Department and Central Design Organisation inspected Gang (Bikaner) canal section RD 294-311 on Saturday. Farmers of Fazilka, Sriganganagar and Hanumangarh districts have been crying hoarse over leakage from the canal for the past few years. This had resulted in waterlogging in nearby villages. Moreover, Rajasthan lost 400 cusecs of water due to seepage.
