Admn to open bank account for girl child
Hamirpur, July 8
The district administration has decided to open bank accounts for the girl child. The move aims at improving the child sex ratio and discouraging sex determination test.
The administration will deposit Rs 200 in the account. To promote the “Beti Bachao and Beti Padhao” campaign, the administration will get funds from the Red Cross Society and Baba Balak Nath Trust (BBNT), Deot Sidh.
The BBNT has been giving Rs 5,000 to poor families for marrying off their daughters.
Rohan Chand Thakur, Deputy Commissioner-cum-Commissioner, BBNT, said the administration would open the account in the name of the child. He said the step would encourage parents to save money for their daughters.
He said the administration had directed the Health Department to encourage pregnant women and register them with anganwari kendras. — OC
