Ajay Vir Jakhar, grandson of senior Congress leader late Balram Jakhar, took over as the Chairman of the Punjab State Farmers Commission here today.

Jakhar has replaceed GS Kalkat, who resigned immediately after the Congress government took over.

He said there was a need to bring about changes in the system to make farmers economically strong.

He said the commission would give suggestions to the state government to make agriculture financially viable. He said farmers must be encouraged to diversify and move away from the traditional crop cycle. They must get remunerative prices for their produce.
