The Chandigarh Administration will stick with the present allocation of portfolios to Secretary-rank officials from the AGMUT cadre and those on deputation from Punjab and Haryana.

Anurag Aggarwal, a 1994 batch IAS officer of Haryana cadre, who joined as the UT Home Secretary, will continue to work with the same portfolios as was being handled by his predecessor, said a senior UT official.

Aggarwal has replaced Anil Kumar, who has been repatriated to his parent state. After the BJP government came to power in Haryana, a panel of three IAS officers was sent to the Central Government for the post of UT Home Secretary.

This was in contrast to the stand of the last Congress government, which had written to the Union Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA), to extend the present Home Secretary Anil Kumar’s tenure by one year.

It may be mentioned that former Home Secretary, Anil Kumar, had objected to his portfolios — education and home — being distributed among the Punjab-cadre Finance Secretary and AGMUT-cadre officer. After the new Adviser, Vijay Kumar, joined office, officials have been directed to put in their best in areas allocated to them.
