Patiala, February 21
The District Administration has decided to again extend the ban on covering faces by two-wheeler and car drivers.
The ban has been extended following recent robberies and other crime incidents where such persons went unnoticed in security cameras.
The November 27 attack on the maximum security Nabha Jail is another reason why the administration had earlier decided to extend the ban in September.
In the recent orders, District Magistrate Ramvir Singh has again issued orders for imposing the ban under Section 144 of the CrPC.
Following the recent theft and robbery incidents in and around Patiala, the District Administration has ordered commuters, especially women, riding two-wheelers not to cover their faces while driving. The police have banned the practice to maintain law and order situation in the city.
“Anti-social elements usually cover their faces while executing crimes to prevent themselves from being identified and it becomes difficult for the police to trace them,” the police said.
Such ban has already been issued in Ludhiana, Amritsar and Jalandhar where the police are issuing challans and registering cases against all such violators. Even in those cities, the main reason behind the ban and official orders was rising crime graph.
