BSF IG attains superannuation

After rendering over 32 years of distinguished service, Inspector General (IG) of the Border Security Force (BSF), Jammu Frontier, RK Sharma, who belongs to Jammu, attained superannuation today.
He commanded Jammu Frontier — one of the most sensitive frontiers of the BSF — for almost two years. During his two-year stint, RK Sharma exhibited exceptional leadership qualities during the intense cross-border firing from Pakistan and always led the BSF troops from the front.
His strategic planning and execution on the ground forced the Pak Rangers to stop cross-border shelling and forced them for a dialogue.
Under his command and leadership Jammu Frontier won all the five force-level prestigious trophies, ie Maharana Pratap Trophy for Best Border Management, Ashwini Kumar Trophy for excellence in training and sports events, Rajabhasa Shield for excellence in using Rajbhasa Hindi in official works, General Choudhary Trophy to 192 Battalion and DG’s Banner to 89 Battalion BSF during 2015.
Sharma has served almost all the theatres of the force, including high altitude area in Kargil Sector, Doda district and Kashmir valley (during peak militancy), Rajasthan, North-East and prestigious training institutions of the force.
He has also been on deputation to the NSG for five years and was instrumental in bringing large number of technical changes.
In recognition of his dedicated service to the nation, he was awarded President’s Police Medal for meritorious service in 2006 and President’s Police Medal for distinguished service in 2012, besides seven DG BSF Commendation Roll, one DG NSG Commendation Roll, one DG (Police) Commendation Roll and one Army Commander’s Commendation Card during his career.
On the occasion, BSF officers and men organised various functions to bid farewell to him.
