CHB relaxes criteria for housing scheme

Now, those residents who own houses bought from private developers can also apply in the housing scheme to be launched in Sector 51 as the Chandigarh Housing Board(CHB) has relaxed the criteria of eligibility to apply in the scheme.

According to changes made by the CHB only those residents who have been already allotted houses by the CHB , GAMADA, PUDA or HUDA or similar government housing entities will be barred from apply for the scheme.

The new condition will benefit more numbers of residents as for the first time the CHB has allowed the residents residing within a radius of 25km from the boundary of Chandigarh to apply for the scheme.

With the changing of the criteria, the residents of Dera Bassi, Baddi, Kurali and Banur and other nearby areas will become eligible to apply for the scheme.

Most people in these areas bought houses from private persons or developers or constructed on their own after purchasing the land.

Earlier, if a resident owned a house was debarred from applying for the scheme.

Maninder Singh, Chairman of the CHB, has confirmed the change made in the criteria for the scheme to be launched in Sector 51. He said the changes were brought about to give maximum benefit to the residents.

As many as 128 two bedroom flats of various categories will be built under the scheme. The proposed scheme of two bedroom flats will have living/dining room, two bedrooms, balconies, kitchen, store, dress space and two toilets. The area of the each flat will be 1054 sq feet.

CHB fixes Rs 6.90 lakh as earnest money

The CHB has fixed the 6.90 lakh as the earnest money to be paid along with the application. Sources said the scheme would be launched on April 1, 2016, and would remain open for one month. Each flat will cost Rs 69 lakh. The CHB is also issuing tender for the construction of flats under the scheme before its launch .

CHB seeks permission to start conversion

Meanwhile, the Chandigarh Housing Board has sought permission from the UT Administration to allow starting conversion of flats from leasehold to freehold.

In a letter written to the Administration, CHB chairman Maninder Singh said the Administration directed to stop the conversion in 2013 till the announcement of the revised rates. The Chairman said the new rates were not finalised yet and the allottees were clamouring for conversion. So keeping in the interest of allotees, the conversion may be allowed till the finalisation of new rates on the prevailing rates.
