Dr Vanita Gupta, a senior Punjab Civil Medical Service (PCMS) officer, was today appointed as the new Director Health Services (DHS) of Chandigarh. She will replace Dr Vinod Kumar Gagneja, who superannuated today.
A decision to this effect was taken by UT Administrator Kaptan Singh Solanki on the recommendation of UT Adviser Parimal Rai. Earlier in the day, Rai interviewed all three senior PCMS doctors whose names were sent by the Punjab Government for the post.
Dr Gupta, a dermatologist, has been the Project Director, Chandigarh State AIDS Control Society, since 2007. Earlier, she had headed the Department of Dermatology, GMSH-16, from 1995 to 2007. She is due to retire in December this year.
“Women and child health care will be my priority areas,” said Dr Gupta on becoming the new UT DHS.
