Garhwal Commissioner Vinod Sharma instructed officials of various government departments to have a better coordination in order to have hassle-free pilgrimage. He said roads and basic infrastructure should be improved along the Char Dham Yatra route. He was reviewing the preparations of the Char Dham yatra at a meeting here today.

He said the Char Dham Yatra had religious importance, besides it generates employment opportunities for youth of the state.

The revenue, police, PWD, and tourism departments have been instructed to form a joint team. He said an immediate action should be taken by the team to overcome flaws along the yatra route. Sharma said there should be adequate facility of potable water and toilets along the route. He said potholes on the roads should be repaired immediately. “Sign boards should be placed at danger zones after identifying it. Landslide-prone zones should be identified and boards highlighting warning signs should be placed,” Sharma instructed, adding that JCBs and bull dozers should be parked at identified places so that rescue works should be started immediately in case of any disaster.

Sharma instructed the Transport Department officials to ensure fitness of buses, and cabs. He said it was the duty of officials to ensure that overloading in government and private buses and cabs should not take place during the yatra season. Sharma instructed police officials to strictly check drunken driving and ensure that restaurant and hotel owners should strictly display rate lists.

He said emergency numbers should be written inside cabs and buses so that passengers could lodge their complaint in case of overloading or over speeding.
