The state government has ordered ‘girdawari’ to calculate the loss to wheat and mustard crops caused by hailstorm in several villages of various districts in the state four days ago. The affected farmers will be compensated as per the government policy.

Agriculture Minister Om Prakash Dhankar disclosed this while interacting with mediapersons after listening to grievances at his residence here yesterday. He said the government would provide the farmers all sorts of succor to bail them out of the crisis.

“We have directed Deputy Commissioners to get survey of hailstorm-affected villages conducted in their districts to assess the crop loss,” said Dhankar. “Farmers enrolled in Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana have been asked to inform the SDM, Tehsildar and agriculture officers concerned about crop loss while those having no insurance cover will be given compensation by the state government,” he said.

The minister maintained that the government had already fixed compensation amount for crop loss due to natural calamity. A maximum compensation of Rs 12,000 per acre was fixed for entire crop loss while Rs 7,500 was for partial damage as per the policy.

The compensation was given on the basis of ‘girdawari’ report to those farmers having no insurance cover while insurance companies compensated those enrolled in the Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana, he added.

Notably, hailstorm, coupled with rain and high-velocity winds, caused considerable damage to standing crops of mustard and wheat in various parts of the state on Friday. More than 15 villages in Rewari district suffered extensive loss due to this natural calamity while partial loss was reported in some villages of Jhajjar district.

Dhankar stated that the second Agriculture Leadership Summit would be organised at Surajkund in Faridabad from March 18 to 20.

Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh and Agriculture Minister Radha Mohan Singh would be chief guests at the inaugural ceremony. Governor Kaptan Singh Solanki would be the chief guest in the closing ceremony.
