Chandigarh, August 16
The Haryana government today transferred six IPS officers, including Navdeep Singh Virk, Commissioner of Police, Gurgaon . Posted as IGP, Rohtak Range, Virk is succeeded by 1995-batch officer, Sandeep Khirwar.
While Virk’s transfer is being perceived as a fallout of the traffic jam earlier this month in Gurgaon following a downpour in which the civil and police administration was found wanting, sources in the government maintain that his posting as IG, Rohtak, has been on the cards since the time the Jats announced a re-launch of their agitation to seek reservation in the OBC category.
Though his transfer was expected earlier this month, sources said that it was stalled in view of the traffic jam since the government did not want the two to be linked.
While Virk’s posting is on expected lines, Khirwar’s posting as CP, Gurgaon, too comes as no surprise. Initially tipped for the post, Khirwar, who was on central deputation when the BJP assumed power in the state in October, 2014, cut short his stint in the CBI to return to the state after the government recalled him.
The government, in its first posting orders of IPS officers, had even kept Gurgaon vacant. However, with Khirwar’s reversion delayed till February, 2015, the government posted Virk as CP, Gurgaon, in November, 2014.
Among the other transfers, Alok Kumar Roy has been posted on promotion as ADGP, Railways and Commando.
SK Jain has been posted on promotion as ADGP, Home Guards. Rajbir Singh Deswal has been posted on promotion as ADGP, HR and Litigation, Police Headquarters, Panchkula. Virk replaces Sanjay Kumar, who goes as IGP, Security.
