Vehicles parked haphazardly on the premises of Civil Hospital, Dera Bassi, has become a major cause of concern for commuters, patients and attendants visiting the hospital on daily basis. Ambulances rushing critically injured victims to Civil Hospital have to wade through haphazard parking near the emergency unit.

Scene is no different with two-wheelers and four-wheelers parked outside the main entrance, hampering the movement of patients and ambulances. The hospital catering to over 100 patients on daily basis lacks parking space on the premises. The situation becomes worse when people park their vehicles near the main gate and entrance to the emergency.

The mismanagement of the hospital authorities concerned could be well assessed from the fact that on any given day, the vehicles inside the hospital premises could be seen in the “No Parking Zone”.

Attendants of the patients park their vehicles inside the hospital premises. This practice is not only creating nuisance in the already congested areas of the hospital, but is also causing immense hardships to patients and their attendants visiting the hospital.

The haphazard parking of vehicles has become a major reason for traffic mess and congestion inside the hospital premises. At times, ambulances get stuck in jams outside the hospital, leaving little space for the traffic to run smoothly.

Sources in the hospital said number of patients had increased substantially during the past few months, the parking space had reduced, owing to which the attendants park their vehicles in “No Parking Zone”.

“They do not even have proper parking space for their staff, where should patients’ attendants park their vehicles,” said Sunil Sharma, an attendant of a patient.

When contacted, Mohinder Singh, SMO, Civil Hospital, Dera Bassi, said “We are very much concerned about the parking problem. Earlier, a private contractor could not make profit so he went off in midway. Local commuters haphazardly park their vehicles on the hospital premises which hinder the flow of other vehicles, causing immense hardships to the patients visiting the hospital.”

He further said he had already written it to the authorities concerned regarding the auction of the parking space and hopefully the problem would be resolved at the earliest.
