The Haryana Government has suspended IAS officer Sandeep Garg following his conviction by a Delhi CBI court last month.
An officer of the 1991 batch, Garg was convicted by a CBI court for amassing assets to the tune of Rs 3.36 crore, disproportionate to his known sources of income.
Garg, who was then Regional Director in the anti-adulteration cell, was convicted along with his father, Swami Sharan Garg, brother Rajeev Garg and friends Atul Jindal and Suman Sarin by a special CBI court at Saket. Garg was then posted in Haryana as Secretary, Finance.
The officer acquired assets worth Rs 3.61 crore between January,1999, and April, 2004. As per the CBI chargesheet, they included a plot in Haryana, four flats in Delhi, shares worth Rs 2.08 crore and a bank balance of Rs 2.94 crore. Also, an expenditure of Rs 4.67 lakh was found to have been incurred on the education of his children.
