Jhajjar, September 7
Now, every driver posted at the Jhajjar and Bahadurgarh depots of Haryana Roadways will have to cover at least 240 km in a day to prevent facing action. The local roadways authorities have issued the directive to tight the noose around “negligent” drivers.
Every driver will have to submit a report every evening on the distance covered in a day. The authorities have decided to chargesheet those failing to comply with the order.
This comes following several complaints filed by villagers about the poor service of Haryana Roadways, especially in villages, sources said.
The Jhajjar depot has 92 buses, while the Bahadurgarh depot has 54 buses.
“It is not easy to cover 240 km in a day as most of the buses are in a poor condition and their maximum speed is not more than 40 km per hour. Besides, the buses have to be stopped at several points and booths and this consumes time,” said a driver on the condition of anonymity.
He suggested to the authorities to replace condemned buses with new ones they wanted to improve the bus service.
Mehtab Singh, General Manager (GM), Jhajjar depot, said the directive had been issued to improve the bus service in the district, besides identifying negligent drivers.
“Since every employee is bound to work at least eight hours a day, it is simple to cover 240 km. The driver will comfortably achieve the target if he covers at least 35 km per hour,” the GM said, adding a copy of the order had been pasted on notice boards at bus stands in Jhajjar and Bahadurgarh.
