The Hospital Services Consultancy Corporation (HSCC), a construction company responsible for the construction of Kalpana Chawla Government Medical College (KCGMC), has terminated the contract of one of its sub-contract company, Supreme Infrastructure, for its lethargic approach towards the project.

The HSCC will call new tenders for completing the work. Experts said it would further delay the project as the deadline of the completion was approaching. Dr Surinder Kashyap, director, KCGMC, said the government had hired the HSCC to construct the project, which had hired further three companies namely Supreme Infrastructure, JMC and Nice. The project has to be completed by December 2015.

So far an auditorium, residential and hostel block at a cost of Rs 137 crore had come up while the second company JMC had to construct a building of hospital and an OPD  at a cost of Rs 286.81 crore by September 15, 2015 while third company had to complete 40 houses at a cost of Rs 6 crore. Supreme Infrastructure had completed only 10 to 15 per cent of its assigned work, while the JMC had done around 50 per cent and Nice had almost completed its work. “Irked over the slow progress of work, we urged the state for strict action against the company,” the director said. After the direction of the government, the HSCC had terminated the contract, he added.

“The termination is good for the project as the progress was not according to the schedule. With the new contractor, the project will get pace,” Dr Kashyap said.

Manoj Wadhwa, deputy mayor said, “The question arises whether the project could be completed on time or not as a major proportion of the work assigned to the Supreme Infrastructure is pending and the fresh contract has to be allotted again, which could delay the completion of the project.
