After the advice of UT Administrator VP Singh Badnore, the Chandigarh Municipal Corporation began taking tips from the Pink City of Rajasthan for the stray dog management in the city.
Chandigarh Mayor Asha Jaswal said they had contacted officials of the Jaipur MC on the issue. Soon, they will hold a meeting with them, she said. Jaipur has succeeded in substantially bringing down the stray dog population and also dog-bite cases in the past 10 years. The issue of stray dogs was raised during the recent meeting of Chandigarh Mayor Jaswal, along with Municipal Corporation Commissioner B Purushartha had gone to meet Badnore. In the meeting, the UT Administrator had said that experts from Jaipur and other places would share their views and throw light on how the stray dog problem could be tackled effectively.Jaipur was one of the first cities to start an animal birth control programme, based on WHO guidelines, back in 1994.
To deal with the stray dog issue, the MCs of the tricity — Chandigarh, Mohali (Punjab) and Panchkula (Haryana) have already joined hands.
