Chandigarh, May 27
The Chandigarh Municipal Corporation is adopting modern procedures such as milling technology for re-carpeting of roads.
The technology aids re-carpeting after removing the upper layer of the existing road, so as to avoid drainage problem and water stagnation. This also helps in raising manholes to the level of the road.
Officials in the road division of the civic body said repeated re-carpeting raised the level of roads to such an extent that they caused numerous problems, including accumulation of rainwater in low areas. Such roads have been identified in Sectors 16, 20, 22, Industrial Area and other parts of the city.
Presently, the service lane leading to the Inter-State Bus Terminus in Sector 17 is being re-carpeted using the milling technology.
Even in residential areas, houses located comparatively at a low level face flooding during rains.
