MOGA: The district administration of Moga has introduced a 24-hour helpline on telephone number 9780303784 for any complaints related to the sacrilege of holy books or any other religious disputes so that swift action could be taken to maintain communal harmony and avoid confusions in the society.

Such complaints could also be filed through email () for which a special cell has been created by the police.

The District Magistrate Parminder Singh Gill and SSP Mukhwinder Singh said that orders had also been issued for night patrolling in the rural areas, install CCTV cameras in all the religious places; besides constituting peace committees at the grass-roots level in the urban as well as rural areas.

While appealing to the people not to throw away the damaged or torn religious scripts in open, the DM said that it should be handed over to the priests of the religious places.

The senior officials of the district administration and public representatives of the SAD and BJP parties also held a meeting a couple of days back and vowed to maintain peace and communal harmony in wake of a series of incidents of sacrilege of holy books reported in the past few days.

Intelligence reports had suggested that a great resentment was prevailing among the society over the recent incidents of sacrilege of holy books in the district due to which the administration has launched the helpline for complaints related to religious disputes.

Meanwhile, a sub-divisional level meeting of the civil and police officers was held with the public representatives, sarpanches and panches, at Nihalsinghwala on Wednesday. The SDM Jyoti Bala, DSP Satinder Singh Rana, SHO Sukhdev Singh Brar had appealed to the people to respect all religions and maintain peace and communal harmony.
