The Mohali Municipal Corporation has drawn up a plan to improve sanitation by fixing days for the removal of garden waste and penalising violators with a heavy fine. The city has been divided into six zones and two days has been fixed for each zone for the lifting of the waste by theMC.
According to the proposal, Zone I will comprise Phases I , II, IV and VI, Mohali and Madanpur villages. Zone II will have Phases III B 1 , III B 2, III A, VII and VIII. Garden waste from these areas will be lifted every Monday and Tuesday.
Zone III will comprise Phases IX , X , XI , Sector 48-C and the bulk market while and Zone VI will cover Sectors 66 to 69 and Kumbra village. Wednesday and Thursday have been fixed for the removal of garden waste from these areas. Zone IV will comprise Phase V, Sectors 70 and 71, Matour and Shahimajra villages. Zone VII will consist of Sectors 76 to 80 and Sohana village. Garden waste from these areas will be removed on Friday and Saturday.
Notably, garden cuttings will be lifted the same day or on the next day. Residents will have to get the cutting done as per the schedule and give information on telephone number 7087034207 so that the waste could be lifted by MC employees.
Residents will not be allowed to dump garden waste on the roadside on any other day.In violation of the provision, , a fine of Rs 2,000 will be imposed on. If the violator fails to pay the fine, the amount will be added to his water bill.
Residents will also not be permitted to throw any waste in parks or green belts. The removal of the cuttings from parks maintained by GMADA will be the responsibility of the contractor concerned.
