Gurdaspur, December 8
Gurdaspur Member Parliament (MP) Vinod Khanna said he had acquired necessary sanctions from the Ministries of Defence and Telecommunications to ensure that the border area of Bamial gets mobile connectivity.
The area is located in Pathankot district and is near the India-Pakistan border. He also claimed to have sorted out the contentious issue of low hanging electricity wires on the Amritsar-Pathankot National Highway (NH) via Gurdaspur and Batala. This issue was threatening to snowball into a major controversy with traffic often being disrupted on this stretch of the road leading to long delays. “However, the problem has now been sorted out,” said Khanna,
Accompanied by BJP rank and file of Gurdaspur district, the MP said all railway stations falling in his parliamentary constituency of Gurdaspur were being upgraded and new facilities were in the process of being added.
“There are nine railway gates on the 3.5km-long stretch of railway line passing through Pathankot city, which are proving to be inconvenient to road users. I have taken up the issue with the Ferozepur Divisional Railway Manager and have urged him to elevate the tracks, which will ensure that all railway crossings were eliminated from that stretch. Work on the elevation process will commence soon and once it is completed, residents will not be inconvenienced,” he said.
This was a long-standing demand of the people of Pathankot and I promise to fulfil their demand soon with the help of the railway authorities. I have also taken up the issue of the Beas-Qadian rail link with the railway authorities and work on it will begin soon,” said Khanna.
