There will be a set form for birth and death certificate which residents need to fill to get themselves registered. For this, they need to pay a nominal fee of Rs 7 for the first copy and Rs 5 for a duplicate one. The certificate will be generated online and can be downloaded by the applicant.

Sources said the Municipal Corporation had conducted a trial of issuing birth and death certificates but a few problems arose due to which the project is still under process.

Haresh Vardhan, Additional District Registrar, District Registrar Births and Deaths, said, “The target of the department is to implement the online service in the next three months. A registration number will issued to the applicant through which they can download the certificate . The document will be acceptable in all government and private institutes.”

He said the department had also started the process of downloading old data from 1953 to 1995, which was being prepared manually as the entire data is computerised after 1996,.

He said all government hospitals in city had started providing online data about birth and death to the department and soon instructions will be issued to private hospitals to do the same.

Sources said during the trial, the operators faced a problem wherein the spelling of the mother’s name in the birth registration at the hospital and in education certificates differed. Besides, the time of birth was also not correct in forms. As such, the online server had declined information and it could not be fed into the system for the issuance of the certificate.

The unclaimed bodies death certificate is also a matter of concern for the Registration Department.

At present, an applicant or family has to apply manually at the Medical Office of Health for birth and death certificate. After the details match, a certificate is issued after two days.
