Dehradun, December 8
Overloading of the transmission lines has become a perennial problem which resulted in frequent power cuts in different cities of Dehradun. Uttarakhand Power Corporation Limited (UPCL) officials told that technical snags were immediately rectified to resume the supply of electricity in affected areas of the state.
The latest information clearly highlighted that 220 KV Nara-Roorkee transmission line was overloaded at 4.30 this morning. UPCL imposed two hours of power cut in Roorkee, Laksar, Bhagwanpur, Mangalore, Bajjpur, Mahwakheda and Kashipur while rural areas of Haridwar went without electricity for an hour today.
Sources confirmed that UPCL is continuously procuring electricity from neighbouring states in order to bridge the gap between demand and availability of electricity in the state.
While informing about frequent breakdowns, an official spokesman of UPCL, Madhusudan said foggy weather conditions had adverse affect on the transmission lines.
He said UPCL Managing Director SS Yadav had already given strict instructions to field staff to take stringent steps to remove technical snags in order to avoid inconvenience to residents in the state.
Madhusudan said UPCL was restored to minimum power cut in order to supply round-the-clock electricity to consumers.
It is worth mentioning that the demand of electricity was 28.23 million units per day against the generation of around six million units in the state. The electricity generation at the 90 megawatt Maneri Bhalli and 42 megawatt Khatima hydropower project was nil.
