Panipat, march 25
The local Municipal Corporation (MC) today unanimously passed the Rs 103.83-crore annual budget presented by MC Commissioner Shiv Prasad Sharma. The MC will get Rs 30 crore from development charges and Rs 5 crore from tower, compounding and miscellaneous unclassified fees.
The MC Commissioner said Rs 25 crore would be spent on various development works, including the purchase of land at Chhajpur village for setting up a solid waste management plant. The councillors drew the MC Commisioner’s attention to eight-acre MC land at Nimbri currently being used for dumping garbage. The Commissioner replied that as the Nimbri land was inadequate for the plant, it was decided to purchase Chhajpur land as part of future planning.
Several councillors raised the issue of blatant corruption in the MC, including in the birth and death certificate wing. The Commissioner assured them that online uploading of data of birth and death would be done within two months and it would help check corruption.
