Sports Dept begins probe into felling of trees

Chandigarh, February 27 

The Sports Department of the UT Administration has begun probing the axing of trees at the Sukhna Lake Club in Sector 1. Sources said Mahinder Singh, Joint Director, Sports, had begun the investigation to find out on whose direction the trees were axed.

The inquiry was initiated on the direction of Captain Karnail Singh, Director, Sports, after the matter reached before him. Karnail Singh asked him to submit the report after verifying the facts. The Sports Department of the UT Administration manages the club. While the employees claimed that the trees were not axed completely and only pruned as they were planted around the swimming pool, the Joint Director said he could not speak on the matter till the finalisation of the probe. Employees also said that more trees were also planted around the swimming pool. The inquiry will also be conducted to know whether proper procedures were followed while axing the trees.
