Parking your car by the roadside next time may end up in clamping of wheels as the Chandigarh Traffic Police have finally introduced wheel clamps. The violators will have to pay a fine of Rs 300 at the Traffic Lines, Sector 29, only after which the car will be released.
Police officials said on finding a wrongly parked vehicle, the traffic police staff would clamp front wheels of the vehicle and paste a sticker of instructions on the windscreen with the phone number of one of the cops who clamped the vehicle. The offender will then have to visit the Traffic Lines in Sector 29 to pay the penalty.
“The offender will also have to submit a photocopy of the registration certificate, insurance, driving licence and pollution certificate, failing which the offender will also be challaned for not having the documents,” said a traffic cop.
At present, the traffic police have around 10 tow-away vans, which are not sufficient to check the problem.
At present, if a vehicle is towed away for unauthorised parking, the offender ends up paying Rs 1,300 in fine.
A head constable on the field duty said they clamped the vehicles parked by the roadside only. “We don’t clamp the vehicles parked wrongly inside parking lots of the markets,” the cop added.
