Dr Tarundeep Kaur, Indian Revenue Services (IRS) today took over the charge of Joint Commissioner of Income Tax (TDS Range ), Ludhiana.
Dr Kaur said the department had handed over a big responsibility to her as the TDS Range had a vast territorial jurisdiction, including Ludhiana and the entire state of Punjab as well as J&K.
The TDS Range also emerging as the biggest revenue collector of the region as the last year budget collection was Rs 3,783 crore. She said with the recent amendments in the TDS provisions in the Income Tax Act 1961, the scope of TDS had been widened considerably and had implications for both private and public sector enterprises. She said her focus would be to achieve the budget collection targets allocated to the Range by employing measures such as educating the tax payers through seminars and awareness camps and also detecting any lapses in TDS collection and late deposits through inspections and surveys.
She said her team would always be ready to provide any assistance to the tax payers at all times and to redress the grievances of the taxpayers should be a top priority. Dr Kaur belongs to the 2007 batch of the IRS and is also the wife of the present Deputy Commissioner, Ludhiana, Ravi Bhagat.
