DRDA computer course to be free for needy

Students doing computer course under the District Rural Development Agency (DRDA) at Mini Secretariat will be registered under Skill Development Initiative (SDI) scheme. Now, needy students will be given computer training free-of-cost. At present, it is free only for below poverty line (BPL) candidates.
Avtar Singh, assistant project officer (Monitoring), DRDA, Ludhiana, said, “The District Rural Development Agency has been running this computer course at 7 blocks of Ludhiana. Recently, Bhag Singh Mangarh, Chairman, Zila Parishad, Ludhiana, during a meeting of the DRDA asked us to get these centers registered under SKI (Skill Development Initiative) scheme. With this scheme, pass outs of the computer course will get certificate of Government of India. However, at present they get the certificate of Government of Punjab, Moreover, some of the enrolled students will be able to get free of computer training.”
At present this computer course of 500 hours is free only for below poverty line students. For scheduled caste students the fee is Rs 400, for backward class students it is Rs 700 and for the students of general category it is Rs 900. The instructors deployed for the training are also paid from the amount collected as fee from students.
