Ludhiana, January 13
After finding discrepancies in the functioning of Agros Impex (I) Pvt Limited, the State Transport Commissioner, Punjab, has cancelled the contract signed with the firm.
The company was earlier authorised by the state government to install high security registration plates (HSRPs) on vehicles.
With the contract being cancelled, the work of installation of HSRPs will remain suspended till a new company is assigned the job.
Confirming the development, District Transport Officer Anil Garg said: “There were many complaints of discrepancy in the functioning of the company. It was not working as per the conditions of the agreement. A few months ago, I filed a report with State Transport Commissioner Ashwani Sharma. Following this, he issued a notice and gave the company personnel a patient hearing. Things, however, remained unchanged. Today, I got a mail from the State Transport Commissioner stating that the contract of the company had been cancelled all over Punjab.”
Talking about discrepancies found in the working of the firm, Anil Garg said the number of people employed was not adequate, snap lock was not being fitted with the HSRP and the old registration plates removed from vehicles were not being kept in a secured manner.
It was on January 12 when The Tribune highlighted the problems being faced by people while getting HSRPs installed on their vehicles.
Nitin Singh, zonal operation manager of Agros Impex (I) Private Limited, said, “I have not received any official communication in this regard. I am on my way to Chandigarh, where I have been called by my company officials.”
