The sealing drive initiated by the Municipal Corporation of Ludhiana against telecom companies has brought desired results as today Indus Telecom deposited Rs 59.29 lakh. Along with this, some other companies have also offered payment against the sealed mobile towers to the MC.

The civic officials on the directions of Municipal Commissioner Ghanshyam Thori had started a drive against telecom companies who had not cleared their dues to department. It was in March that the MC had sealed over 100 mobile towers. It was done for the recovery of over Rs 3 crore that was pending from mobile tower companies. The sealing drive was successful as over Rs 1 crore has been recovered by the MC.

Notably, most of the towers in the city have been installed by the Indus Tower, Vodafone, Essar and Reliance. Apart from this, other companies are Bharti Infrastructure, TATA, BSNL, Spice, Hutch, Wireless TT, Quippo Telecom and GTL Infrastructure.

The Indus Towers have deposited the amount for de-sealing of 43 mobile towers in various parts of the city. The officials claimed that now they would check the record whether the company has cleared pending dues or still some amount was pending. They claimed that they would de-seal the towers after checking the records.

Municipal Commissioner Ghanshyam Thori said it was for the first time that the drive against telecom companies was conducted and it generated results as well. VIOM Networks was the first one to deposit Rs 18 lakh and now Indus Towers has paid Rs 59.29 lakh. Now, even the other mobile tower companies were approaching the MC.
