Ludhiana, June 8
Much to the relief of residents of the city, the railway ticket reservation counter at the Head Post Office, which had been closed due to technical problem for over a year, has again been made functional.
Senior Postmaster, Head Post Office, SP Pahwa said the railway reservation counter had been started again. “There was some technical problem in the computer and the Railways was supposed to fix it. We had also written to the Railways for resumption of the reservation centre. They have finally resolved the issue,” an official at the Postal Department said.
Another official said though an additional amount is charged for booking a ticket at the post office, the counter was quite popular earlier. A sum of Rs 15 per ticket is charged for booking a ticket for 2nd class and sleeper class, Rs 20 per ticket for 2nd class AC and Chair Car and Rs 30 per ticket for first class AC and second class AC.
Residents say booking a ticket is much easier at the Head Post Office. “Booking a ticket at railway station is always a hassle because it is situated in a crowded area and is far off for many residents. I always made it a point of book a ticket at the Head Post Office as it was more convenient,” said Rahul Verma, a resident of Civil Lines. “It is great that the reservation counter has been started again,” he said.
